Jasin MTB Jamboree review
May 06th, 2010, 3:38pm

The day before the ride we stay in Muar for a night...due to the distance to drive all the way up to Jasin is quite far...the next day morning, still need to wake up early at 5am as we need to drive to Jasin stadium...wake up early prepare gears load up bikes and a quick breakfast...when Azam arrive we convoy and head to Jasin stadium...upon reaching we unload the bike and get ready for the ride...

When the ride about to kick off there was a short briefing on the signage and also marking in the trail...it say that there about 800 riders registered...but it don't seem like 800 at the starting point...well who care...just enjoy the ride...the hot sun out early...so better be quick...when ride start we took a short road ride in the city around...and then head into the trail...starting it was a bit jam but i was wondering what cause the jam...as the trail seems to be quite a big and open trail...so just make my way through following Capt Neo...after a short while...front pack shouted "backtrack"...huh?? backtrack?? wrong trail?? wrong marking?? yes indeed the fast rider too fast and miss the marking...so off we go and do the backtrack...some riders even blame the organizer for doing the poor marking...but it was just the beginning...

While riding through saw alot riders from JB as well...Paul Moir, Maverick riders, Ramesh, WA Cycles, PG Gerek, Pak Awie, Panjang and some Muar NBC riders also...after about 10km Joon from KL chain break...so me Kvyn and Charlie took a rest while repairing the chain...Kvyn offer him a chain link with the price RM200...and he took the offer...after the chain repaired...we continue the journey....first stage was quite a fast track...and so is the 2nd stage as well...smooth and flowy trail...in about 2hours we already cover more then 25km...some even more for those who is fast...after passing the first water point...we saw a guy down with a deep cut on the knee cap torn on the skin even can see the bone...Sham, Neo and other are there to help out the guy...and after a while the marshall with a small motorcycle pass by and carry that guy out...luck it was quite near to road...so after that off we go and head on to the checkpoint 2....after reaching checkpoint 2 we took a quick stop and continue on to checkpoint 3...chekpoint 1 and 2 is quite a fast and smooth flowy trail...so it was quite fast that we can reach checkpoint 2...mostly are oil palm plantation, a few short rubber plantation and also passing some village...not much of hill yet...

After check point 2...we starting to hit some climbing...after a while...another climbing...then we saw Neo was resting beside...as the front there was another climbing...it was quite a steep and OPEN climbing trail...Neo check on Kvyn GPS the place we rest is about 300feets above sea level...and there are 200more feets to go....ok i only manage to climb 2 small hill and the rest is push rest push rest....the sun is on top of my head and the heat is generating up rapidly...so gotta clear fast....the heat get up to my head...but lucky no cramp...and my first bladder already running out of water...and my 2nd should be not much also...Neo was with me while getting up the OPEN hill...along the way saw alot ppl resting in the bushes...after the struggling...we manage to get out from that hill and all the down down down....it was quite sandy doing down and steep...i was riding hardtail so alot hard breaking...and even lock wheel...drag the way down i can smell the burning brake pad...finally reach the water point...was told that it was the last water stop...ok so i replenish some as still got about 10km to go...look at the time it was about 12pm...and neo advice to get unopen bottle...so can drench when overheat...scramble guy stop at the waterpoint and ask for deep heat cream...as there are still alot people on top of the hill and cramp...so i pass mine "the wonder goat milk" and neo's dee heat to them...as the medic already ran out of deep heat cream...Rest enough time to go...slowly ride all the way up into the oil palm plantation...so it was at least not so "OPEN".....ride through the heat...saw Kvyn and Charlie stop at the side...ok decide to take a rest...heard Kvyn also having cramp....that is why they stop there for a rest...a quick drench for me...to cool the heat...when ready off we go again...in a pack....saw the signage 1km water point...huh?? another waterpoint?? isn't the earlier on was the last?? nope...indeed there is another 1...lucky for me as i grab another bottle for quick drench...after that water point i can't see the pack...as i'm on my own...till reach a point where i saw them resting under the shade...ok...a quick rest...and cool down...from here on is all the way back...when out from the trail...is back on the road again...saw the marshall beside the road...a quick check on the distance and was told 500m...Kvyn ask back "sure not"....then saw another 2 marshall after a while...and was told that just in front less then 1minute....was so happy to hear that....so rush all the way back...and reach the stadium finish line...get the finishing medal...everyone has it...where is your Kvyn??...i got the 421 placing...just happy that i can complete it...yeah did another approximately 50km...as it was not a full 50km...sleepy through waiting for lucky draw and got a t-shirt as souvenir...

Was a good ride..and hot ride...nice preparation and very nice trail marking...all very very clear won't miss at all....for those who got lost i really no idea how you all can lost...food so so still ok...weather too hot...tent not big enough to accommodate so many riders....but overall was well organize...big cheers to the organizer for the nice trail....and thanks Neo for shouting "MENTAL" that really kicking me out from the trail...

Congratz to all the riders as we all made it...some even complete under 100 placing....they know who they are...till we ride again!!!
